I was reading an article on Newsvine.com about how Dutch cowboys rescued 100 stranded horses from a muddy knoll that had turned into an island because of flooding. They were stranded for three days out there and 19 of the horses died before the other hundred could be herded to safety. I got midway through the article and decided to try and find Marrum, Netherdlands on a map. I wanted to see what the land looked like “outside the dikes of Marrum, a town 90 miles northeast of Amsterdam.” In my browsing over at http://maps.google.com I came across this super weird body of land and water. I felt like I was looking at a video game, or somebody’s piece of late 90′s, Photoshopped, hyper-techno art. I am still baffled as to why land and water look this way. Google Maps identifies the place as Vinkeveense Plassen, and it certainly looks VERY inhabited. Why would a place shaped like this exist? Can you imagine trying to deliver a pizza?
Check out Vinkeveense Plassen, and the most crazy ass marina you’ve ever seen.
